Did you know that the Directors of Show Us Your Hands! live in three different countries?

Did you know that between them, the Directors and volunteers of Show Us Your Hands! have 118 years experience of living with inflammatory arthritis?

Did you know that everything Show Us Your Hands! does is made possible by donations?

This is the first post in an occasional series that shines a light on the operational side of Show Us Your Hands!. We’re going behind the scenes so you can get to know us. And we’ll show you how we do the work that results in positive and creative community projects that raise awareness about inflammatory arthritis.

Today, we’ll give you the big overview of how we are able to do the work of Show Us Your Hands!. If there’s anything you’re especially interested in knowing, leave a comment and we’ll do our best to answer your questions in future posts.

Community Support

Show Us Your Hands! is supported exclusively by donations.

Members of the community support us through donations in two different ways. One is by submitting their stories and photos for our community projects that raise awareness about inflammatory arthritis. Your contributions are what makes our awareness projects so meaningful to others who live with these diseases.

The second way of supporting the organization is with a financial donation. Even the smallest amount will help us with the cost involved in running Show Us Your Hands! and developing our community projects.

We are immensely grateful for all the support the community has given us over the past three years. You are the reason that we are able to create awareness campaigns that make others with inflammatory arthritis feel less alone and bring more understanding about these diseases.

Working for Show Us Your Hands!

We have no staff, so all the work involved in running Show Us Your Hands! is done by the Directors, with input on community programs from our volunteer Advisory Council.

Whether the task is preparing minutes from a Board meeting, creating an awareness campaign, or picking up the mail, the Directors of Show Us Your Hands! donate their time and work to the organization so it can continue to thrive.

This is no different from so many other volunteer opportunities where people donate their work to a cause. Like so many others who believe in giving back, none of us receive any financial compensation for what we do.

So why do we do it? Because we love this community.  Because we love our hands. Because your hands are beautiful and we want to show what people with inflammatory arthritis can do. Because working for Show Us Your Hands! gives us a great deal of joy and we are committed to continuing this work for years to come.

Do you volunteer, either online or in your community? Is there anything you’d like to know about the way we work?  We would love to hear about your experiences and are happy to answer your questions.  Leave a comment below, or email us at infoATsuyhDOTorg
